apple of one’s eye 眼中寶；珍愛的人或物

    自古以來，眼睛就被稱為靈魂之窗，而眼裡的瞳孔，更是一個人的精神、力量所聚集處。人的眼睛不會說謊，因為那是最真實自己的呈現。在西方，瞳孔就形容成蘋果，因為它們都有圓圓亮亮的外觀。

    最早出現這個成語是在舊約的聖經裡頭《申命記》三十三章的第十節(Deuteronomy 32:10)裡頭：

    In a desert land he found him, in a barren and howling waste. He shielded him and cared for him; he guarded him as the apple of his eye.
耶和華遇見他在曠野荒涼野獸吼叫之地, 就環繞他, 看顧他, 保護他如同保護眼中的瞳人。

    後來流傳開來，只要說一個人或物是你的寶貝，就可以說他是the apple of your eye。

例句：

    For me, Sophie is the apple of my eye, because I love her so much and decide to protect her with all my power. 

   對我而言，蘇菲是最棒的寶貝，因為我很愛她，而且決定要一輩子保護她。
